Ireland online casinos 2026 Independent licence audit, GRAI transition period
This directory covers 18 brands serving Irish players in 2026, organised by region. Remote bookmakers on this list hold a licence issued by the Office of the Revenue Commissioners. Casino-only brands serve the Irish market under licences from other regulators such as the Malta Gaming Authority, MGA, or the UK Gambling Commission pending the Irish online casino licensing regime operated by the new Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland, GRAI under the Gambling Regulation Act 2024.
Brands: 18
Regulator: GRAI / Revenue
Min age: 18+
Tax on winnings: 0%
We list only brands licensed by the Revenue Commissioners or holding a recognised EEA licence. The GRAI became the national regulator under the Gambling Regulation Act 2024. Crypto casinos aren’t currently licensed to operate in Ireland.
Why only licensed casinos are safe for Irish players
In 2026, Ireland’s gambling market is in transition. Remote bookmakers holding a Revenue Commissioners licence are legally authorised to take bets from Irish residents. Online casino-only brands that serve Ireland typically hold an MGA or UKGC licence pending the GRAI’s full online casino licensing regime. What that Maltese licence actually covers is set out in our analysis of the MGA. Playing at any unlicensed or undocumented casino carries serious financial risk, with no enforceable protections.
✓ Revenue / MGA / UKGC licensed
Winnings are enforceable through regulator-backed complaint procedures. National Gambling Exclusion Register legislated under the GRAI, not yet operational. Credit card deposits prohibited. Statutory ad watershed 5.30am-9.00pm. Bonuses restricted under s.157 GRAI Act. 0% player taxation.
✗ Unlicensed / offshore casino
No legal recourse if winnings are withheld. Irish courts can’t compel payment from undocumented casinos. No self-exclusion register integration. No regulated dispute resolution. Your deposits are legally unprotected. Risk of fraud and identity theft.
The GRAI can issue fines of up to €20 million or 10% of turnover for breaches of the Gambling Regulation Act 2024. Remote betting licences moved to the GRAI on 1 July 2026, and in-person licences follow. Online casino licensing comes in a later phase.

Online casino myths · Ireland 2026Myths vs reality
Why this matters
These aren’t strategies, they’re myths: beliefs that quietly cost Irish players money. The mathematical reality of every casino game is the same: a licensed casino keeps a permanent statistical edge, so over a long enough run the player loses. We set them out so you can spot them, not follow them.
Quick gut check
Tap True or False. Most are myths Irish players fall for, but watch out, 2 of these statements are actually true.
Playing at quiet, off-peak hours improves my odds online.
Online games run on a certified random number generator that ignores the time of day and how many people are playing. The result of each round is fixed by probability, not by traffic, so no timing trick moves the built-in margin away from the casino.
Switching to a different game after a losing run changes my luck.
This is the gambler’s fallacy. Every game and every round is statistically independent, so moving to a new slot, table or site resets nothing. The mathematical edge stays with the house on whatever product you choose.
A casino is more likely to drop a jackpot that hasn’t paid out in ages.
A licensed game has no memory. Each spin is independent and the random number generator is certified by an approved test house, so a jackpot is never closer simply because time has passed since the last one dropped.
Casinos serving Ireland can no longer accept credit card payments for gambling.
True. Under the Gambling Regulation Act 2024, credit cards may not be used to fund gambling in Ireland. The rule is meant to stop people betting with borrowed money, one of the clearest markers of gambling harm.
Live dealer tables are fairer than slots because a real person runs the game.
A human dealer doesn’t remove the house edge. Live roulette, blackjack and baccarat rest on the same fixed mathematics as their digital versions; the rules of the table still hand the casino a long-run advantage.
I can lift my entry on Ireland’s National Gambling Exclusion Register whenever I want.
The register, run by the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland, applies for the full minimum period you choose and covers every licensed casino at once. That permanence is the point, so it can’t be cancelled on impulse.
Gambling adverts are barred from Irish TV and radio between early morning and 9pm.
True. The Gambling Regulation Act 2024 prohibits gambling advertising on television and radio between 5:30am and 9:00pm. The daytime watershed is designed to keep betting promotion away from children and from those most at risk.
Crypto-only casinos are licensed and safe to use from Ireland.
Crypto-only casinos aren’t licensed to operate in Ireland and sit outside the authority’s framework. Paying in cryptocurrency leaves you with no consumer protection, no complaints route and no enforceable way to recover funds if the site refuses to pay.
Why these are betting licences
Ireland doesn’t license online casinos yet. The numbers on this page are the Irish betting licences these brands hold, issued by the Revenue Commissioners. Their casino games run under licences from other European regulators, such as the Malta Gaming Authority. The GRAI is taking over licensing, betting first and online casinos in a later phase, and we’ll update these numbers as its licences are issued.
INFOQuinnBet was founded by the Quinn family in Co. Cavan, historically Ulster, and now operates under a Gibraltar-based holding with Revenue Commissioners remote bookmaker licence 1019644.

General player FAQ 2026
Who regulates online casinos in Ireland in 2026?
The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland, created by the Gambling Regulation Act 2024, will license online casinos, but casino licensing comes in a later phase. Until then, there’s no Irish licence for online casinos: the sites serving Irish players hold a licence from another European regulator, most often the Malta Gaming Authority.
How do I check that an online casino serving Ireland is licensed?
For now, look up the casino’s name on the register of the regulator that licenses it, most often the Malta Gaming Authority, and check that the licence number in the site’s footer matches. Casumo holds MGA licence MGA/CRP/176/2010, and PlayOJO holds MGA/B2C/213/2011.
Is it legal to play at an online casino licensed in Malta or elsewhere in Europe?
Irish law doesn’t criminalise players for using casinos licensed in another European country. Protections vary, though. Casinos licensed by the Malta Gaming Authority follow EU standards and usually have a proper dispute resolution process. Once the GRAI starts licensing online casinos, Irish-licensed casinos will be the safer choice.
Which payment methods can I use at an online casino?
Debit cards, bank transfers, Open Banking and prepaid instruments are accepted. E-wallets such as PayPal and Skrill are allowed as long as they aren’t funded by credit, and Revolut debit cards work too, unlike Revolut Credit. Credit cards are banned for gambling under the Gambling Regulation Act 2024.
Can I self-exclude from every online casino at once?
Not yet. Ireland’s National Gambling Exclusion Register, run by the GRAI, isn’t operating, and it will only cover casinos holding an Irish licence. For now, self-exclude on each casino site you use and ask your bank to block gambling transactions. For support, the national helpline on 1800 936 725 is free and open 24 hours a day.
What happens if a UK-facing casino site serves me while I’m in the Republic?
Reputable casinos geolocate users and block or redirect them. If a UK-licensed site serves you while you’re in the Republic, you’re outside the UKGC’s consumer protection remit, and the protection of your funds may differ. Contact the casino’s support to correct your account location. The GRAI has powers to act against casinos targeting Irish players without authorisation.
