UK online casinos 2026 Official UKGC licence registry
This directory covers the 21 UKGC-licensed online casinos active in the United Kingdom as of 2026, organised by region. Every casino listed holds a valid remote operating licence issued by the UK Gambling Commission, UKGC, under the Gambling Act 2005. Licences are publicly verifiable on the UKGC Public Register.
Casinos: 21
Regulator: UKGC
Min age: 18+
Tax on winnings: 0%
We list only UKGC-licensed casinos. Unlicensed sites are illegal under the Gambling Act 2005. Crypto casinos aren’t currently licensed to operate in the UK.
Why only UKGC-licensed casinos are safe for UK players
In 2026, only online casinos holding a remote operating licence issued by the UK Gambling Commission, UKGC, are legally permitted to offer gambling services to UK residents. Playing at any offshore or unlicensed casino from the UK carries serious financial and legal risks, with zero enforceable protections if a dispute arises.
✓ UKGC licensed casino
Winnings are legally protected and enforceable. Self-exclusion via GamStop is mandatory. Segregated player funds required under Licence Condition 4.2.1. ADR , Alternative Dispute Resolution, available. Withdrawal requests can’t legally be reversed. 0% player taxation enforced.
✗ Offshore / unlicensed casino
Winnings can be confiscated without legal recourse. No obligation to honour payouts. UK courts can’t compel payment from overseas casinos. No GamStop integration. No regulated ADR process. Your deposits are legally unprotected.
The UKGC’s point of consumption licensing requirement in force since 2014 and strengthened in 2022 means any casino targeting UK players must hold a UK licence regardless of where they’re incorporated. Many UKGC holders also keep a Malta licence for their non-UK business, a pattern we set out in our analysis of the MGA. However, enforcement against offshore casinos is limited in practice, so choosing a licensed casino is the only safe approach.

Online casino myths · UK 2026Myths vs reality
Why this matters
These aren’t tips, they’re myths: beliefs that cost UK players money. The mathematical reality of casino games is simple: the house always has a statistical edge, and on a long enough timeline, the player loses. We list these myths to show you exactly how easy it’s to lose money at the casino, not to encourage play. If you or someone you know struggles with gambling, contact GamCare on 0808 8020 133.
Quick gut check
Tap True or False. Most are myths UK players fall for, but watch out, 2 of them are actually true.
If I keep playing, I will win my money back.
Each round is independent and the house edge applies to every single bet. Playing longer increases your expected loss, and it doesn’t move you closer to breaking even. Chasing losses is one of the clearest warning signs of gambling harm.
After a long losing streak, a win is due.
This is the gambler’s fallacy. Outcomes on UKGC-licensed slots and roulette are produced by a certified random number generator, RNG. Past results never change the odds of the next spin; no win is ever owed to you.
You can win at online slots if you play long or smart enough.
Online slots are pure chance with a fixed Return to Player, RTP, commonly around 96%. That means the casino keeps roughly 4% of total stakes over the long run. No skill, pattern or amount of play changes a result that’s decided by the RNG.
In the UK, you pay no tax on your gambling winnings.
True. Players in the UK pay no tax on gambling winnings, you keep 100% of what you win at a UKGC-licensed casino. Gambling duty is paid by the casino, not the customer. Different rules may apply if you’re tax resident in another country.
A betting system can beat online casino games over time.
No staking system, including the Martingale, removes the built-in house edge. Doubling your stake after a loss simply risks rapid bankruptcy and hits table limits. The maths of the game stays the same whatever pattern you bet in.
A slot that hasn’t paid out in a while is hot and ready to hit.
A UK-licensed slot has no memory. Every spin is independent and the RNG is certified by a UKGC-approved test house. There’s no such thing as a machine that’s due; a jackpot is never closer just because time has passed.
In Britain, online slot spins are capped at £5, and £2 if you’re aged 18 to 24.
True. Since 2025 the UK Gambling Commission limits online slots to a maximum of £5 per spin for players aged 25 and over, and £2 per spin for players aged 18 to 24. The cap applies to every game cycle on every UKGC-licensed site.
I can ask the casino to lift a GamStop self-exclusion early if I change my mind.
A GamStop self-exclusion can’t be cancelled early. It runs for the full period you chose, 6 months, 1 year or 5 years across every UKGC-licensed online casino at once. That permanence is exactly what makes it a protection.
Where can I get NHS help for gambling in the North of England?
The NHS Northern Gambling Service treats adults across the North, with clinics in Liverpool, Manchester, Preston, Leeds, Sheffield and Newcastle, and video consultations if you’d rather not travel. You can refer yourself, and it also supports family members. Its Leeds clinic, opened in September 2019, was the first NHS gambling service outside London.
Does the North of England have a large casino?
Yes, in Leeds. The Gambling Act 2005 allowed only a few areas to license a new large casino, and Leeds is one of them. Its large casino, Victoria Gate Casino, opened in 2016 as part of the Victoria Gate shopping development.
Which online casinos are run from the North of England?
Sky Vegas is run by Sky Betting & Gaming, which is based in Leeds, and Tombola, whose Tombola Arcade offers slot games, is based in Sunderland. Both now belong to Flutter. Where a casino is run from doesn’t change your protections: every player in Great Britain is covered by the same UKGC licence conditions.

London local FAQ
Can I deposit cash at a London Grosvenor venue and play online the same day?
Yes. Grosvenor links its venues and its website: cash deposited at The Victoria or The Rialto Club is credited to your online account through your membership card within minutes. Withdrawals work the same way in reverse.
Is the Hippodrome Casino online platform under the same licence as the physical casino?
No. The venue in Leicester Square operates under a land-based premises licence, and Hippodrome Online under a separate UKGC remote casino licence. The membership and loyalty scheme links the two.
Can tourists staying in London hotels play at UKGC-licensed online casinos?
No. Electronic identity checks require a permanent UK residential address, and hotel addresses are rejected. Visitors can still play inside London’s physical casinos with a passport.
Where can I get NHS help for gambling in London?
The National Gambling Clinic, run by Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust, treats adults living in Greater London. Opened in 2008, it was the first NHS gambling treatment service in the UK, and it also treats young people aged 13 to 18 from anywhere in England. You can refer yourself.
Is there a large casino in London?
Yes, in Newham, one of the areas allowed a new large casino under the Gambling Act 2005. Aspers opened it at Westfield Stratford City in 2011, the first large casino to open under the Act.
No. The Gambling Act 2005 covers England, Wales and Scotland, so an online casino serving Scottish players needs the same UKGC licence as anywhere else in Great Britain. Land-based casinos are different: in Scotland, their premises licences are issued by licensing boards rather than local councils.
Where can I get help for gambling in Scotland?
Gamblers Anonymous Scotland holds free meetings every day and runs a 24-hour helpline. Families can turn to Gam-Anon Scotland, which meets separately. If you’re struggling emotionally, Breathing Space offers a listening service. The National Gambling Helpline run by GamCare also covers Scotland.
Does the UKGC regulate online casinos in Northern Ireland?
Not as a regulator. The Gambling Act 2005 and the UK Gambling Commission cover Great Britain: England, Wales and Scotland. Northern Ireland’s own law, the Betting, Gaming, Lotteries and Amusements Order 1985 amended in 2022, has no licence for online gambling and no gambling regulator. There’s one direct link: since 2014, a company without a UKGC remote operating licence commits a criminal offence if it advertises online gambling in Northern Ireland. That’s why the online casinos that can legally advertise to Northern Ireland players hold a UKGC licence, even though the Commission’s consumer rules are written for Great Britain.
Can Northern Ireland residents use Irish online casinos?
Online casinos geolocate players and show the version of the site that matches their location, so a Northern Ireland resident is normally shown the UK site rather than the Irish one. Irish-facing casino sites are set up for players in the Republic.
Can I use euros at an online casino in Northern Ireland?
No. Casinos serving the UK run accounts in pounds sterling for UK-registered players, however close you live to the border.
Where can I get help for gambling in Northern Ireland?
Dunlewey Addiction Services offers free, confidential advice, counselling and a Northern Ireland gambling helpline. For residential treatment, Cuan Mhuire runs a centre in Newry, County Down. Gamblers Anonymous also holds meetings in Northern Ireland.

Wales local FAQ
Are there Welsh-language interfaces, in Cymraeg, at UK online casinos?
As of 2026, no major UKGC-licensed online casino offers a full Welsh-language interface. Private gambling companies aren’t required to provide Welsh-language services, though some offer Cymraeg customer support on request.
Do online casino rules differ between Wales and England?
No. The Gambling Act 2005 applies in Wales exactly as in England, and the same UKGC licence conditions protect players in both. Wales has no separate regulator for online casinos.
Where can I get NHS help for gambling in Wales?
Since April 2026, Wales has its own NHS specialist gambling treatment service and a 24-hour helpline, run for the whole country by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. Before that, Wales had no NHS-funded specialist gambling service. Anyone over 18 can use it, and treatment can be delivered remotely.

South England local FAQ
Where can I get NHS help for gambling in the South of England?
The NHS Southern Gambling Service, based in Southampton and opened in 2022, treats people aged 17 and over who are registered with a GP in the South East, in person or remotely. In the South West, the NHS South West Gambling Service covers anyone aged 18 and over registered with a local GP.
Where in the South of England can a new casino open?
Under the Gambling Act 2005, only a few areas can license a new casino. In the South, Milton Keynes and Southampton can each host one large casino, and Bath and North East Somerset one small casino. Milton Keynes opened its large casino in 2013.
General player FAQ 2026
What does the UK Gambling Commission do, and where does its authority stop?
The UK Gambling Commission is the statutory regulator for gambling in Great Britain, set up under the Gambling Act 2005. It licenses gambling companies, sets the conditions they must follow and enforces them. Its authority covers England, Wales and Scotland. Northern Ireland has its own gambling law and no gambling regulator, so the Commission isn’t the regulator there. Every online casino serving players in Great Britain must hold a UKGC remote operating licence.
How do I check that an online casino is licensed?
Search the casino’s name or account number on the Gambling Commission’s public register at gamblingcommission.gov.uk/public-register. Every licensed site must show its licence details in its footer. Several brands often share a single licence: Virgin Games, Monopoly Casino and Jackpotjoy all run under account number 38905, for instance. Check who holds the licence, not just the brand name.
Which payment methods can I use at a UKGC-licensed casino?
Most licensed casinos accept debit cards, Open Banking payments through providers such as Trustly, e-wallets like PayPal, Skrill and Neteller, Apple Pay, Google Pay and prepaid vouchers like Paysafecard. Credit cards have been banned for gambling since 14 April 2020. The list varies by casino, and PayPal in particular isn’t offered everywhere, so check the cashier page before you sign up. Open Banking is safe to use: you approve each payment in your own banking app and never share your card details.
How do withdrawals work, and how long do they take?
Speed depends on the payment method more than on the casino. Open Banking and e-wallets are usually the fastest, while standard bank transfers take 1 to 3 working days. Anti-money laundering rules require casinos to send winnings back to the method you deposited with, which is why you can’t freely choose another destination. And once you’ve asked for a withdrawal, you can’t cancel it and play the money back: the Gambling Commission has banned reverse withdrawals for all online casinos since 2021.
What identity and financial checks will an online casino ask for?
Since May 2019, casinos must verify your age and identity before you can deposit or play. It usually happens automatically in under a minute, and you’ll be asked for documents only if it fails. As you spend more, further checks apply: since February 2025, casinos must run financial vulnerability checks once your net deposits reach £150 in a month. At higher levels, expect to prove where your money comes from, with payslips, bank statements or proof of an asset sale.
Is an online casino regulated like a land-based one?
Both need an operating licence from the Gambling Commission: a remote licence for an online casino, a non-remote licence for a land-based one. A land-based casino also needs a premises licence from the local council, or from a licensing board in Scotland. The minimum age is 18 in both, and both must let you self-exclude.
What happens to my money if an online casino goes bust?
It depends on how the casino protects customer funds, and it has to tell you. The Gambling Commission requires every casino to state whether your balance has no protection, medium protection or high protection, the highest level meaning it’s kept separate from the company’s own money. You’ll find this in the terms and conditions.
How can I block myself from every UK online casino at once?
Register for free with GAMSTOP. Every casino licensed by the Gambling Commission must take part in the scheme, which blocks you from all of them for the period you choose, at least 6 months. You can also set deposit limits or take a break directly in your account, and ask your bank to block gambling transactions.
